Bluebird Soccer Academy Community Veganic Vegetable Farm is an innovative food security and sustainability initiative located in Mukarange Village, Kyangwali Refugee Settlement in South Western Uganda. The project aims to address rising hunger and malnutrition among refugee households, particularly as ongoing conflicts and instability in countries of origin continue to drive displacement, increase death and cause trauma. Our farm is also a healing space for those young people who have been victimized by wars. Using veganic farming practices—free from animal inputs—the project will also produce healthy, chemical-free vegetables for vulnerable people in BSA’s sports programs and for households across the community.
In addition, our Veganic Farm plays a critical role in supporting the nutritional needs of refugee children and youth participating in our sports programs, especially those aged 4–10, 11-15, and those under 18 whose health and well-being are a central priority during our training curriculum and development activities. In addition to feeding young athletes, the farm supplies the wider community with affordable, healthy vegetable produce, contributing to improved nutrition and responding to persistent health challenges among the refugee population.
